Biography

Dr. Sean Thompson hails from Plainview, Long Island where he established his roots as a New Yorker. He spent the majority of his formative years in California, where he attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) graduating with a degree in Sociology where he studied health care disparities and access to care. After his graduation from UCLA, Dr. Thompson spent time with inner city students, as a math and science teacher in South Central LA prior to relocating to the Midwest for medical school. At St. Louis University, Dr. Thompson combined his background in health disparities with his passion for skeletal anatomy and entered the field of Orthopaedic Surgery with goals of continuing to assist the underserved. After an internship at The University of Massachusetts he completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at The State University of New York- Stony Brook in 2009. Dr. Thompson was the first African American resident to complete the Orthopedic Surgery residency program at SUNY-Stony Brook.

Dr. Thompson continued his training at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases (NYU-HJD) as a fellow in Adult Reconstruction where he focused on research in obesity management and joint replacement. After completing fellowship Dr. Thompson served as an Attending Physician in the department of Adult Reconstruction of (NYU-HJD) for two years prior to opening his own private practice, East Coast Bone and Joint Surgeons (formerly known as Thompson Medical).

 He enjoys practicing general orthopedic surgery with a focus in advanced joint replacement and sports medicine. He is a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc and enjoys mentoring youth interested in pursing a career in medicine. In his spare time Dr. Thompson enjoys golf, traveling, rare cars, and spending time with his lovely wife Stephanie and their three children.  His children are Ian age 11, Gillian age 9, and Sheridan age 5.
