The Resilience Guide

Support and inspiration to help you achieve your biggest breakthrough or bounce back.

"How can I be helpful?" David usually began our conversations with this question. As a startup founder navigating the brutal reality of startup life, those words felt like a balm to my soul, often when I needed to hear them the most. Knowing someone took a genuine interest in my success in the early days was quite encouraging and kept me going even through many setbacks. Under his three-decade leadership as Commissioner of the NBA, David J. Stern transformed the league from a small scale enterprise into a global powerhouse while having a tremendous impact on the lives of superstars like Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. In retirement, or rather as Chairman "Emeritus," as he preferred to be called, he started a venture fund and within a few years had outperformed many veterans in the industry by recognizing and backing startup founders in the tech, media, and health industries. During the time I worked with David, I learned that his success stemmed not only from business acumen but also from showing up with tenacity and remarkable consistency for the people and causes he believed in. Through his life, he demonstrated the meaning of resilience.

Resilience means bouncing back from setbacks, whether they are injuries, performance slumps, or critical reviews. It's about learning and growing from every challenge, not just professionally but in all aspects of life. More than talent, resilience is the most important trait that determines long-term success, especially when the stakes are high. We all know really talented individuals that seem to fade away as quickly as they appeared. A good mix of mental strength, emotional balance, physical endurance, clarity of purpose and probably the most important ingredient - having the right network of support. A support of mentors, peers, coaches and experts is essential. And ultimately, when a career has reached an end, resilience is embracing a new chapter with vigor while daring to strive towards a goal even more lofty than before.

At Lindenhaus, we stand firm in the belief that everyone actively seeking to live a long, healthy and fulfilling life deserves to be supported. According to the Youth Endowment Fund, nearly one-third of 16-24-year-olds reported depression or anxiety, and those from lower-income backgrounds are 4.5 times more likely to experience severe mental health issues. This lack of support contributes to higher rates of violent and financially motivated crimes. Partnering globally allows us to extend our advocacy, ensuring that for every member that joins our community, we can also support a young adult in need.

We're not just about making changes to global healthcare as we know it; we're committed to fostering a more resilient world—one person, one community at a time. Recognizing the crucial role that mentorship and mental health support play in the lives of young adults, our goal is to provide comprehensive assistance to those in need, ensuring they have the resources and guidance to build a brighter future.

The Resilience Guide will be packed with exclusive interviews from visionary leaders, current and former athletes, artists, as well as valuable tools and insights from experts. Maybe you'll uncover answers to important questions or stumble upon new questions that stimulate reflection and offer you fresh perspectives. This guide is intended to provide the support and inspiration you need to achieve your biggest breakthrough or bounce back to new heights. When you do, I hope you become a beacon of hope and support for others and a force for good in the world.
