Biography
Katerina (Kathy) Tsapos Parmele, MD, FACEP, IFMCP is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician, Institute of Functional Medicine-certified functional medicine physician, Wellcoaches certified health coach, and on the Council of Directors for True Health Initiative. She graduated magna cum laude in biochemistry from Harvard, received her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and completed Emergency Medicine specialty training at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Parmele’s careers and interests are multi-faceted. When she’s not saving lives in the emergency department, she is improving the lives of her functional lifestyle medicine coaching clients through her private coaching practice in a wholistic way, optimizing their biomarkers and lifestyle habits for peak health. She’s passionate about the need for physician wellness, and this passion led her to found HealThySelf HealThyWorld, which aims to spread the lifestyle medicine message to clinicians to pay it forward exponentially to their patients. Dr. Kathy also shares her Greek heritage annually in her Med in the Med Wellness Retreats on the island of Paros. As a native Greek cook she loves to spread the culinary medicine message to others one delicious forkful at a time. She is also an avid endurance athlete, having completed 10 Ironman triathlons (including the World Championship in Kona), 15 marathons (including the Boston Marathon), and the iconic Coast to Coast New Zealand multi-sport race to date. While aiming to improve her sports longevity and performance she invented the Pinnacle Therapeutic Roller System, the world’s first modular, adjustable massage roller. She hopes to continue to follow her passions and manifest her best self while helping others do the same.
Dr. Kathy is empty-nesting in Edgewater, MD with her fiancé Dean and their dog Zoey.
